Stainless-Steel is an alloy of steel that has been around for 100 years. It's popular in the kitchen because it resists corrosion better than other steels, which is why you'll often find it used for cookware and kitchen appliances.
You may find some stainless-steel products outlast others & it should come as no surprise to read that there are different grades of stainless steel available, each with its own quality and price point. Here I will discuss the different types of stainless steel used at Chad-O-Chef so that you can plan your purchase well informed.
CHAD-O-CHEF’S STANDARD INLAND RANGE
304 Stainless Steel is our most used grade of stainless steel. It is a higher grade austenitic stainless steel, which is known for its anti-bacterial properties & good corrosion resistance when properly cared for, also for its good formability and good weldability. This Stainless Steel is used on our gas braais, on the areas that are exposed to the elements, where it pays to budget a bit more on top-quality steel.
Our design intent is to make a product that is both affordable & of superior quality. In the less exposed areas of our gas braais, we use a 430-chromium based stainless steel, where corrosion is less likely. The advantage of using this steel is that it has excellent mechanical properties over a wide range of temperatures, further extending your braais lifespan.
The Hybrid Braai range remains fully 304 Stainless Steel, being the top of our range, flagship product.
CHAD-O-CHEF’S COASTAL GRADE RANGE
While the combination of 304 & 430 Stainless steel proves a perfect mix for those of us staying in inland areas, the corrosive air at the ocean can prove much more of a challenge for others. We then recommend that you ask your salesperson for the coastal grade products. These products will be specially made in a fully coastal grade of stainless steel. The molybdenum content enhances the corrosion resistance, making it the best choice for more aggressive conditions.
